I was sorry to see that The Oregonian/OregonLive is endorsing any of the new or renewal tax initiatives listed on the May 21 ballot, (“Editorial endorsements May 2024: Our editorial board’s voting recommendations,” April 17).
Folks are voting with their feet, and not by ballot. From 2020-2023, Multnomah County has seen a reduction of approximately 27,000 residents. Residents have moved due to the high cost of taxes, utilities and housing. If this trend of folks moving out continues, we will see limited or reduced economic growth leading to extreme challenges in maintaining public safety and livability.
