Harris mulls tax rise
On Thursday, the Harris campaign put out its first advertisement since she launched her presidential bid.
The 80-second clip shows footage of Ms Harris, 59, at her first rally in Milwaukee and is set to the Beyonce song Freedom.
“There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos, of fear, of hate,” Ms Harris is heard saying in a voice-over while images of Trump are shown.
In the video, Ms Harris promotes her campaign as one based on abortion rights, gun control and affordable healthcare.
“We choose a future where no child lives in poverty, where we can all afford healthcare, where no one is above the law”, she is heard saying.
It was reported that Ms Harris is considering an increase in corporation tax, as Republicans continue to launch a barrage of advertisements attacking her as a radical progressive.
She is assessing whether to go further than Mr Biden’s attempt to raise corporate tax from 21 to 28 per cent, sources told US website Axios.
Some Democrats fear Ms Harris’s campaign has not acted quickly enough to spend the more than $100 million (£78 million) it has raised in a flurry of donations since Mr Biden ended his candidacy, giving Trump and his allies a chance to attack her.
‘The original Marxist’
JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, claimed Ms Harris was “dangerously liberal” as he shared an advertisement attacking her as progressive.
The video, posted on social media, accused the vice-president of wanting “open borders”, healthcare for migrants, “radical” gun control and wanting to reduce red meat consumption.
At a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, Trump called her “lyin’ Kamala Harris” and said she was a “radical Left lunatic”. He also described her as “the original Marxist”.
